Key Stage 3 - Introduction
(Click here for the latest "Key Stage 3" information)
Welcome. I’m Dr. Gerard Griffiths and as Head of Key Stage 3, I have an overview of Year 7, 8 and 9. I work closely with the Deputy Head of Key Stage, Jo Waite, the Transition Coordinator, Sian White and the Pastoral Support Tutor, Teresa Andrews.
Our role is to oversee the development of all students in the Key Stage, as they make the leap from Primary to Secondary education and then into Years 8 and 9, before graduating into Key Stage 4.
We focus on both their pastoral and academic development, acting as the link between the two distinct and yet inter related areas. Pastoral Mentoring and Academic Monitoring programmes are firmly in place to ensure that all students are able to access the curriculum and achieve their potential. We work in partnership with parents, to ensure that every child attends college regularly and makes progress in all subjects. We keep parents regularly informed of their child’s progress, with rigorous assessment and reporting procedures.
We have a firm belief in recognising achievement and celebrating success, a belief exemplified by an achievement Ceremony and a Rewards Day at the end of the summer term.
If you wish to discuss any aspect of your child’s education, please do not hesitate to contact me through this site, or by telephoning the college. I look forward to hearing from you.

KS3 Mentoring Day
A big ‘thank you’ to all the parents who attended the recent KS 3 Mentoring Day. The day was an innovative move away from the traditional Parents’ Evening, and was designed to allow your child’s Tutor to be at the heart of their learning. The average attendance across the Key Stage was 76%, a figure significantly higher than previous Parents’ Evenings.
The feedback from parents, students and staff was overwhelmingly positive.
Parents were particularly impressed by the welcome from the staff, the quality of the discussion and the quality of the data presented to the parents. Pleasingly, 97% of parents and students felt that they had enough information and support to make progress.
88% of students enjoyed the discussion. The reasons cited for their enjoyment were related to the fact that it was good to see their Tutor in such a light and that the conversation was more productive (and relaxed) compared to the traditional Parents’ Evening. Furthermore, 89% of students felt that they had a better understanding of how to improve their learning.
All of the staff involved felt they had improved their knowledge of the students,
and that the experience had increased their effectiveness as a learning coach.
We have taken on board the constructive comments from parents and students and will endeavour to ensure that next year’s event is even more successful.
Those students who were not seen on the day will be seen by their Tutor, or a member of the KS3 Pastoral Team between now and Easter.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of the day itself, please do not hesitate to contact me through the web site, or by phoning me at the college. I look forward to hearing from you.
