Regular litter operations will be conducted as and when deemed necessary by the teams and any person caught in the act of littering will be dealt with appropriately by the relevant agency.

Abbie Eveleigh-Williams, Jehd Chapman and Ben Willis have donated their free time to patrol the local area with PCSO Sarah Roberts highlighting the issues relating to litter and handing out small green litter refuse bags for the clean disposal of waste products.

Well done to all students for supporting this initiative.

Last Friday a group of year 9 pupils – all boys- attended the fortnightly coffee morning held for members of the local community at Tonypandy Library. The main aim of the visit was to find out what the group knew about distraction thefts and whether they had been personally affected by this crime. The pupils are currently working on a project looking at this local issue as a number of thefts have occurred in nearby supermarkets whilst shoppers have been distracted and their purses and valuables taken from their bags.

During the visit the pupils conducted a survey and found that several members of the group had experienced this crime first hand. The pupils explained that they are working on creating a DVD to promote awareness of this problem within the locality and all those at the coffee morning felt that this was a positive idea and would support the initiative.

The pupils ended their visit with a light-hearted quiz which was a fun way to end the morning and helped to build a great relationship between the different generations who were present. PSCO Roberts said ” I have received great feedback from all members of the group, they thoroughly enjoyed the company of the boys and were in complete awe of their politeness and willingness to get involved in conversations. Well Done Boys”

The members of the coffee morning are looking forward to another visit from the pupils once they have completed their DVD. All the pupils involved would like to extend their thanks to the group for allowing them to attend.

Group included Jehd Chapman, Jessie George, Jessie Button Tomas Boundford, Brandon Raymond, Cori Jones, Dylan Fletcher Hewitt, Callum Thomas, Stefan Jeczalik and Jarrad Sweet

On the evening of Monday January 16th a fantastic evening took place at Ystrad Sports Centre in aid of The Ugandan Building Fund. For the past three years Tonypandy Community College has been linked to a school in Mable that is in great need of help and support. A team of staff and community members are visiting the school in February to help improve the facilities and so this evening was a brilliant way to raise some extra funds!

As the people started to arrive and take their seats the importance of the evening hit home as photos of the link school and community were postered around the entrance. After a short welcome the festivities began with a delicious three course meal from Brownings Caterers. The entertainment came next with a performance from Sophie Evans of songs such as “Tell me on a Sunday”, “Empire State of Mind” and the ‘Wizard of Oz’ classic “Somewhere Over the Rainbow”. Our very own Dorothy treated us to an amazing set of songs accompanied by her band Martin Childs, Huw Evans and Huw Griffiths.

Our exciting auction then began headed up by Mr Peter Blake. Auction prizes included a Cardiff Blues shirt signed by the whole team, Make Over and Photo Shoot with CF40 and Clive Hughes, 4×4 Driving Experience day, a gold bracelet from Gregg Prosser, a Round of Golf for 4 people at the Vale Hotel and Spa Resort, an Edwards Overnight stay to London and various signed photographs. A lot of money was raised for a good cause thanks to the spectator’s generosity. A short raffle also took place afterwards which raised even more money and gave away prizes such as bottles of wine and boxes of chocolates. It was lovely evening and a great time was had by all

Fabulous bracelet

It was a very tight match and Guernsey/Wales lost 2-3 to end a great run in the team competition

Connor Edwards (Tonypandy Community College ) had a great win against the French number 1 and later the singles winner Joe Seyfried. Conor won some very important matches for his team and in the singles events

Wednesday 7th December saw six Year 11 boys from Tonypandy Community College set off to Tylorstown Sports Centre for a 5×60 KS4 Basketball tournament.

The team of John Plenderleith, Conor Edwards, Jarrad Morrissey, Sam Lee, Ryan Jones and Jay Shallish were excited at the thought of playing some familiar teams from last year’s tournament.
The boys were going into this tournament not having played any opposition since last year’s 5×60 competition however they were feeling confident as they had great success last time out.
The first game against Y Pant saw the boys play brilliantly but narrowly lost by 1 point. They won their next game being Treochy A 7-4 before progressing nicely on to beat Ponty High 30 points to 8. This through the whole pool open with Tonypandy, Treorchy, Y Pant and Porth possibly being able to progress to the semis. The boys knew that with two hard games left against Aberdare and Porth that they needed to perform and win to have a chance, luckily the results went our way and the boys successfully went through into the semi-finals.

The semi-final came, we were up against Garth Olwg who had been Pool B winners and flying high but our boys were way too strong for them winning comfortably 20 -10. Then came the final, yet again we were up against Y Pant. The boys wanted revenge for the pool stages but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. The boys played extremely well throughout the day and their attitude and commitment was second to none.

Even though we didn’t walk away as finalist winners the boys really did do themselves, 5×60 and the college proud!

Well done Boys!!!
