Performing Arts

In our faculty we believe that Music and Drama are powerful, unique forms of

communication that can change the way students feel, think and act.
We are committed to delivering a curriculum that will encourage a learning
environment where all students can develop self-esteem, confidence and
personal expression. It prides itself in giving all students of all abilities the
opportunity to achieve.
We offer a variety of courses to accommodate and develop all types of
learners. These include:
• BTEC Performing Arts level 2 (4 GCSE equivalent)
• BTEC Music level 2 (2 and 4 GCSE equivalent)
• GCSE Drama
• BTEC Performing Arts level 3 (single and double A level equivalent),
allowing students to explore drama, music and dance

In addition to this, students can also study through the Rhondda schools
consortium, A level Music at Treorchy and BTEC Music Performance level 3
(single A level) at Ferndale.

Our results have been outstanding in all areas at GCSE and A level over the
last three years and we have consistently helped our students to surpass all
expectations and achieve superb grades. 2012 will prove no different, with
students in post-16 in line to achieve the best results in Performing Arts yet.

We strive to provide an excellent, inspirational and most importantly,
enjoyable experience for students who wish to learn how to play an
instrument or sing. We pride ourselves by being the only secondary school
in the county where provision is free of charge and students can select from
singing, woodwind, brass, strings, keyboard, guitar and drums. Our tutors are
all professional musicians who have a wealth of experience and skills, with
which they constantly inspire our students.

In addition to the enriched curriculum, we also provide a wealth of opportunity
for extra curricular activities past production have included: An annual
showcase in aid of the RCT Mayors charity at the Muni Theatre, Little
Shop of Horrors, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Beauty and the Beast,

The Wizard of Oz, Bugsy Malone, A Night at the Musicals and an annual
Christmas Community Concert.
