Business Studies

Business Studies is taught within the ICT department. Therefore, the majority of lessons allow students to access ICT to ensure that the work is created using the ICT resources.

Students following the business studies courses undertake visits to real businesses so that they can see business activities ‘live’.  They also attend courses such as customer care, to ensure they have the skills and knowledge to apply to the course criteria.

OCR NATIONALS BUSINESS LEVEL 2:
Students are following the OCR Nationals Level 2 Business Studies course. The course requires that Students complete 6 units to achieve 4 GCSE’s Units covered are Unit 1: Investigating Business, Unit 2: Enterprise and Operations, Unit 3: Finance in Business, Unit 4: Communications in Business, Unit 9: E-Business and Unit 11: Keeping Customers Happy.

Units 1 – 4 are compulsory units design to provide an overview of the main areas of managing a business. The additional units have been selected to allow students the opportunity to gain an insight into applying ICT to business practises and examining real life business/working practises.

Students can opt for this course at the start of Year 10 or at Post 16. Students following this course have the opportunity to achieve up to 4 GCSE’s.

AS APPLIED BUSINESS LEVEL 3:
When students reach Level 3, they continue to develop their work-related skills and knowledge, but now progress to more advanced topics – such as Human Resource management, customer service and marketing.

The amount of detail increases, as students take a more in-depth look at the business world, and gain an excellent all-round understanding of the challenges and rewards it offers.
AS applied Business at Level 3 are offered as three separate qualifications to accommodate a range of learning styles and requirements:
