The Maths Course

At Key Stage 3, pupils study the skills and range outlined by the National Curriculum. The department aims to encourage enjoyment in studying maths and the work is contextualised to allow students to appreciate the importance and application of maths to real life situations. In each year, there are projects designed to develop the important skills of personal finance. Throughout the key stage students will undertake a number of other extended projects to give them experience in problem solving and delivery will encourage other key skills such as communication,  working with others and ICT.

At Key Stage 4, students study the WJEC GCSE maths syllabus which covers the areas of ‘Using and Applying Mathematics’, ‘Algebra’, ‘Number’ and ‘Data Handling’.  Groups of pupils may also be given the opportunity to study the other maths related courses – Statistics or Additional Mathematics.

At Key Stage 4 student study the WJEC Advanced Level course which consists of Pure Mathematics (Units –‘C1’, ‘C2’, ‘C3’ and ‘C4’) Statistics (Units –‘S1’ and ‘S2’) and Mechanics (Units ‘M1’ and ‘M2’).

KS2 Assessment Website

Tonypandy Cluster is very proud to launch its new KS2 Assessment website. This project is the result of a lot of hard work by all the Primary Schools in the Tonypandy Cluster and Tonypandy Community College. Working together, staff have agreed a benchmark for assessment levels across the core subjects, including Welsh, and standardised the assessment process across the cluster. This means that standards for all students will be improved; learning and teaching has been developed through the sharing of good practice; and the Tonypandy Cluster is now stronger than ever with partnership and collaborative working. The Headteachers of the Tonypandy Cluster would like to thank all their staff for their hard work and resilience in bringing this project to fruition.

Our secure website can be accessed by logging onto Tonypandy Cluster
