Exam Board: WJEC

New course specification from 2009 means that the course has now changed 4 units rather than 3 as it was previously.

The course covers all aspects of human development and health & well being. It is split into 4 sections- 2 projects set by the exam board and 2 examined units based on specific topics.

Unit 1 Health, Socail Care, childrens services (Compulsory for single & double)

Unit 2 Human Growth & development (Compulsory for single & double)

Unit 3 Maintaining Health & well being (Compulsory for double award)

Unit 4 Promoting Health & well being (Compulsory for double award)

Examples of topics covered:

Physical, intellectual, emotional & social development from infancy through to older adulthood.

How our lifestyles affect our health & wellbeing.

The types of health & social care services that are available to us throughout our lives and how we access them.

Assessment:

Double award                                                     Single award

60% coursework based on 2 projects      60% and 1 project for single award

40%  2 written exams                                     40% 1 exam for single award

Possible career progression:

 Teaching, nursing, health services, crèches etc.

Year 10 Health & Social Care . All pupils should have their folders with them at home. The Unit 2 notes that they have, can be read through and they can complete the Check your knowledge questions at the end of each section. They will have the mock exam planned for before Christmas when they return to school.
