Additional Learning Needs (ALN) - Introduction

This College believes that every student has an entitlement to realise their potential. Educational experiences are provided which develop students’ achievements and recognise their individuality.
This College recognises a student’s right to a broad, balanced, relevant and challenging curriculum, which is appropriate to individual abilities, talents and personal qualities.
The Additional Learning Needs Faculty works within the college to ensure that all students with learning needs have those needs met. The students may have long or short-term additional needs. They may have a specific need or general needs. The needs may be to do with their intellectual ability, their emotional, social and behavioural condition or a physical difficulty. Because the range of needs is wide so the provision in the college is extensive.
The Director of the Additional Learning Needs Faculty is also the Special Needs Coordinator [SENCO] in the college-Sara Edmonds. We have a teacher who teaches the students with Hearing Impairments in the specialist resource base. [HI Unit]
Currently we have 9 Learning Support Assistants and a communicator. These are trained assistants who have a variety of roles within the college.
Within the college we have a teacher who has responsibility for More Able and Talented Students.
The Additional Learning Needs Faculty is a vital part of the Tonypandy Community College Team that seeks to ensure students have the opportunities they need to succeed.
